The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Section (BMB Thailand) is an academic arm of the Science Society of Thailand. It was founded in 1973 (as the Biochemistry Section) by a group of pioneer chemists and biochemists from several academic institutes who have greatly contributed to the development of Biochemistry in Thailand. The Section aims to promote growth and development of Biochemistry in Thailand, stimulate knowledge sharing and strengthen the Thai biochemical community. The Section is internationally recognized as a Constituent Member of the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) and an Adhering Body of International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). BMB Thailand has collaborated with various biochemical organizations in holding the national and international symposia, specific meetings, seminars, workshops and specific educational events. The Section also gives awards to outstanding biochemists and provides fellowships for young researchers to participate in the conference. With FAOBMB, it has hosted four international FAOBMB congresses/conferences including the 3rd FAOB Congress in 1983, the 11th FAOBMB Symposium in 1994, the 17th FAOBMB Symposium in 2004, and the 13th FAOBMB Congress in 2012. For nearly five decades, the Section and several of its chairs as executive committees of FAOBMB have played active international roles in promoting and supporting the growth and development of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
